CHALLENGE
Find an economical and efficient solution to eliminate joint separation and infiltration at the twin culverts on Alum Ridge Rd. in Floyd, Virginia.

ENGINEERED SOLUTION
The HydraTite® internal joint seal was proposed as a solution. The HydraTite® seal is a qualified product with the Virginia Department of Transportation, and is listed as VDOT drainage item number 07-78 on the special products evaluation list which was last updated in 2017.

SCOPE
Install (22) 48” HydraTite® internal joint seals within the twin culverts under Alum Ridge Rd. Removal of debris and concrete prep work were required prior to installation.

SOLUTION
Crew and materials entered through open ends with no above ground disruption to traffic during installation. The project was completed in two days. The trenchless repair cost a fraction of the price and inconvenience of full replacement. The finished product will prevent further joint infiltration, separation, or sink holes.
